![]() ![]() I think the real answer is 'Kelsey Beachum'. Given we know it has a defined starting point, albeit unbound due to quantum effects but still confined to the Hearthian star system, this is likely not the answer. Hypothetically the implication of a signal detectable in the cosmic microwave background would nearly imply that, but not quite. Luneshot posted: Or is there some other, physical characteristic of the signal that somehow implies Did they decode some explicitly coded "message" in the signal, in which the Eye basically "claimed" to be older than the universe, and they took it at its word? Or is there some other, physical characteristic of the signal that somehow implies it is older than the universe? ![]() My impression was that when you decode the Eye's signal, it just gives you the geometric design that we see ingame. The other thing I wonder about is purely scientific curiosity: how and why did the Nomai (and presumably the owlks) interpret the Eye's signal as older than the universe itself? The real answer is of course "because story", but I'm having a hard time comprehending a physical mechanism by which a signal could be interpreted as older than the universe- especially given that we know the signal that the Nomai detected was emitted when the Prisoner did his thing. Was the owlks' discovery of the Eye because it had just started emitting (presumably because the end of the Universe was approaching), or had it already been emitting for a while and they only discovered it when they advanced far enough in tech to detect it? warp drives) were in range, because if they were, they would have had a decent amount of time to get there before the owlks did (although the speed of light does complicate that assumption). One of the things I've always wondered about the Eye's signal is why did it start emitting in the first place? As far as we're aware, the owlks were apparently the first species to learn of it, but they had enough time to strip-mine their homeworld, build a generation ship, fly to the Eye, interpret it's signal, then block the signal I think we have to assume that no species with advanced spaceflight tech (i.e. The moon's vortex is a reflection of the vortex around eye both return you to the start, in a way. The Quantum moon reflects the body it orbits around, so when it orbits the eye, it takes on the characteristics of the eye, including the vortex. Is that one you jump into and it spits you out on the Timber Hearth version of the Quantum Moon? I thought that was a separate spooky possibility hole that was part of the moon. Maybe the hole is there because of the planet, like the black hole inside Brittle Hollow? I assume it's the hole sending the signal, though. Shwoo posted: The planet is the Eye of the Universe, but the spooky possibility hole is also the Eye of the Universe. Literally describing the strong anthropic principle which under the circumstances.may well be right. ![]() But the game is only showing the "successful" timeline from the player character's point-of-view. So, in some timelines, the warp vessel probably did land on the wrong side, and the player character didn't get to the Eye. But it was always going to happen and be successful, because the Eye is quantum and could "select" the timeline where it was successful, with all the crazy coincidences that were needed to make that particular timeline successful. From what we're shown, it is basically the latest that anyone in the universe could get to the Eye. And even so, you need ridiculous time manipulation technology to get it right. But it seems like the Hearthians were the last race that could pull it off, and the player character is the last of his kind that could do it. When you think about it, there are a crazy number of coincidences that had to occur to get the Hearthian where he needed to be, and there are many more timelines where the owl people or Nomai or some other space-capable race could have gotten there first and much more easily. The timeline that is "chosen" is the one that resets everything while giving the current universe as much time as possible before getting reset. ![]() A very small subset of those timelines result in someone making it to the Eye of the Universe to reset everything for the next universe. My interpretation of the game is that the universe has a set lifespan and all possible timelines that could exist within it are "available". I wonder what our plucky hearthian would have seen if the vessel warp had landed them such that you were seeing SpookPlanet from below the plane of the spooky quantum rings (which obscure The Hole), rather than above as in the game ![]()
